On April 19 it was just a couple days before Pacelli’s big prom dance. It was the only dance they had that year, so it was the only opportunity to socialize with the entire school during the pandemic. Everyone was excited and asking each other to the dance. Which is all one student, Mia Berna, wanted to do.

So, Mia and her friends devised a plan. They would tie together all their earbuds, and at the end would be a pleasant surprise. The surprise was a cookie, and a big note that said, “PROM?” They were all so excited. Casey, one of Mia’s friends, held the long rope of earbuds over the edge of a case of stairs, and waited for Adam, a junior, to come across it.

They didn’t want someone else to accidentally think it was for them, so they kept lowering and bringing it back up when they think Adam would come. They accidentally missed him coming up those stairs. So, they got tired of waiting for him to come back up the stairs again, so they taped the rope up, waiting for Adam, not knowing what would soon happen to it.

All of a sudden, three unnamed boys ripped down the rope, broke it apart, and cut some of the earbuds. They then took the cookie and smashed it, and took the note and ripped it. Continuing the attack, they threw the earbuds at Mia and her friends, and kept one pair of Apple Earbuds from the rope. This was a true display of rudeness, and bad manners. The girls (Mia, Casey, Lucy, Anna, and Sydney) were left heartbroken at the horrible act. It took much effort to make the rope, and not to mention the cookie was homemade too.

Cassandra Vaughan said, “It upsets me how all our effort went into this, and somebody just destroyed it.”

Lucy Gwidt said, “The look on her face after devastated me, I can’t even describe it.”

Anna Auer said, “It was so inconsiderate and depressing that someone would ruin such a surprise.”

Sydney Krueger said, “I have no words.”

This is just another example of Pacelli’s tolerance for bullying.
